What Keeps Senator Ayotte Up At Night? (via http://www.thebrennerbrief.com)

There are not many conservatives thanking Senate minority leader McConnell for his leadership these days, but that is exactly what Senator Ayotte did as she took to the stage at CPAC. Calling this a “watershed moment” in American history, Senator Ayotte gave a sobering speech regarding the current instability around the world.

On the home-front, too many Americans are out of work, regulations are strangling the economy, Obamacare is killing small businesses, we have a broken tax code, and the President and Senate Democrats just want to keep raising taxes making it harder to hire. At a time when our nation is “drowning in debt” and we are robbing our children of the American dream, national security is no place to find a silver lining. In fact, the dangers are enough to keep her up at night.

Immigration Reform Leaders Arrested 5

It matters not a whit what you call it — it still amounts to amnesty for eleven million illegal aliens in America. This “new” immigration reform from both the US Senate and the US President is utterly ridiculous. But in the end, it will be rammed down the throats of the American public simply because the US government has gone rogue and is no longer responsive — nor responsible — to the US citizenry. And some people still wonder WHY Americans are arming themselves???The Heritage Foundation released the following statement on January 30th, 2013:“America’s heritage of immigration has fueled our nation’s strength and diversity, yet our immigration system has become so politicized and dysfunctional that it causes untold personal tragedies, strains the fiscal capacity of public services in many states, and prevents many from pursuing the American Dream. Complex, comprehensive legislation based on back-room deals never works, and the Senate immigration proposal announced this week and echoed yesterday by President Obama—to the extent that it repeats the mistakes of the past—will further polarize Americans, fail to solve the real policy problems, and make matters worse.

The “Above the Law” President

gasprices

On one issue after another, President Obama says he can’t wait for Congress to act. This is the same justification presidents have always used when they find the checks and balances required by democracy to be inconvenient. That preference for ruling as an unaccountable monarch is precisely what our founders feared.

Evasion of Constitutional Checks

President Obama has said he would prefer to rule without interference from the elected representatives of the American people. His record shows a disturbing willingness to do just that.

The president’s arrogant approach to governing disregards important constitutional structures — such as the Appointments Clause of the Constitution — and displaces Congress in favor of unelected bureaucrats and czars.

Bipartisan legislating has been replaced by unilateral executive rule-making. Oversight has given way to unaccountability.

Unfortunately for the American people, President Obama’s regulatory over-reach ignores their views and circumvents their elected representatives.

Gingrich Slams Media on Limbaugh Focus

Rush Limbaugh

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich slammed “the elite media” for focusing on the contraception controversy that Rush Limbaugh escalated last week instead of reporting on the issues relevant to the campaign.

“I am astonished at the desperation of the elite media to avoid rising gas prices, to avoid the president’s apology to religious fanatics in Afghanistan, to avoid a trillion-dollar deficit, to avoid the longest period of unemployment since the Great Depression, and to suddenly decide that Rush Limbaugh is the great national crisis of the week,” the former House speaker said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” read more

Obama’s Values Spark Return of Culture Wars

MOculturewar

In 2007, while still a member of the U.S. Senate, Barack Obama said, “I am absolutely convinced that culture warsare just so ‘90s. Their days are growing dark.”

Until recently, I’ve been inclined to agree with Mr. Obama. The culture wars are over. We lost.

We’re no longer fighting to uphold traditional social values. Now we’re fighti

ng a battle over the very definition of what it means to be an American, and what America means to the world.

But it turns out the president himself has reignited the culture wars he so smugly declared were passe.

Like most leftists, Mr. Obama assumed his values and opinions had become the norm (think, “The science is settled” and other pronouncements of opinion as fact).

When, two weeks ago, he arrogantly announced the Health and Human Services directive requiring all employers (or their insurers) to provide free contraception, sterilization and abortifacient drugs as mandatory provisions of health care coverage, Mr. Obama must have quite naturally assumed his edict would go unchallenged.  read more
