LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) — Simply talking in the hall can land students at one school in detention. The principal says it’s a move to keep kids out of trouble, but one parent says it’s not working.

Many of us remember the olden days at school — the bell rings, a mob hits the halls, and then there was five minutes to see friends, get gossip, and get to your next class. At T.T. Knight Middle School, those days are gone.

“I think it’s unfair,” says student D.J. Herm.

Silence is the rule there, because, as Principal Faith Stroud puts it, “I am a principal that uses data.” She installed hallway cameras in October and found that sometimes bullying and fights start there between classes.

Caroline Glick :: Harvard, Jew haters, motherhood and Israel

This morning I received an e-mail alert from CAMERA that my alma mater, Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government is hosting a two-day conference which essentially begins with the proposition that Israel has no right to exist. This isn’t surprising. After all, the Kennedy School is home to my old professor Steve Walt. No one there batted a lash when he co-published his updated version of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion with University of Chicago’s John Mearshimer.

Not only did Walt suffer no recrimination from his colleagues at Harvard when he first emerged a professional Jew basher.  He suffered no recrimination when he used the controversy surrounding his book into a means of transforming himself into a celebrity Israel basher.

Teacher salaries at the high school average $72-78k. Apparently 50% of the students at the school are failing all of their classes, and the graduation rate is also under 50%. In an effort to turn the school around, the superintendent requested some changes be made whereby the school day would be slightly extended, teachers would perform some extra tutoring, etc.

The union balked and refused the terms, so now she is firing the entire teaching staff of the high school and replacing them. This is yet another example of unions digging their own graves by refusing to negotiate or accept reasonable terms. Sentiment is on the side of the superintendent, at least among the folks I have discussed the issue with.

A political test for teachers

When a child doesn’t finish his homework, who’s at fault? The Race, Culture, Class and Gender Task Group in the University of Minnesota‘s teacher-education program wants every teacher blaming things like “white privilege, hegemonic masculinity, heteronormativity and internalized oppression.” Those who don’t, these professors believe, are unfit to be teachers.
